PropGon UV Trim v2.1: The Free Blender Addon for Trim Sheets
If you work with Trim Sheets in Blender, you know that organizing and mapping UVs can be one of the most tedious steps in the pipeline. That is why we created PropGon UV Trim, a free addon for Blender 4.2+ that automates the entire UV workflow for Trim Sheets from start to finish.
What Is PropGon UV Trim?
PropGon UV Trim is a professional UV toolset for Game Art and Environment artists who work with Trim Sheets. Instead of moving islands manually slot by slot, the addon analyzes your layout, detects the divisions and fits them automatically, in seconds.
Available completely free at propgon.com.
Where Is the Addon?
Once installed, all the addon panels appear in:
UV Editor → Sidebar (N key) → PG UVTrim tab
Included Tools
1. Trim Layout
Define and manage the divisions of your Trim Sheet directly from Blender. You can assign custom colors to each strip, name them by material and save the full configuration as a JSON preset to reuse in any project.
2. Fit to Trim
Select one or several UV islands and fit them to a specific slot of your Trim Sheet with a single click. The addon takes care of scaling, positioning and orientation automatically.
3. Scan to Trim
One of the most powerful tools. It automatically analyzes the islands in the UV Editor, detects the divisions by material and size, and generates the trim divisions for you. Ideal for complex meshes where defining divisions manually would be slow.
4. Smart Scan & Auto Layout
A single button that runs the full pipeline: it scans your mesh, detects divisions, arranges the UV islands in the matching slots and adjusts the texel density. From zero to a professional UV layout in one click.
5. Atlas Presets
Save and load complete Trim Sheet configurations as JSON files. You can share your presets between projects or with your team, ensuring consistency across the whole production.
6. Texel Density Tools
Get, set and evaluate the texel density of your UV islands with built-in technical suggestions. The addon warns you if any island is outside the optimal range for your target texture resolution, which is critical to keep visual consistency in a modular environment.
7. Quadrify UV
Straightens UV islands using quad-grid topology walking. Perfect for flat surfaces, walls and modular floors where you need the UVs to be perfectly rectangular so the texture tiles correctly.
8. Orient to Geometry
Aligns UV islands to the world axes (X, Y, Z) based on face normals. It removes the need to rotate islands one by one by hand: the addon detects the correct orientation automatically.
9. ID Map Baking
Generates Color ID Maps directly from the materials assigned to your mesh. The IDs are exported as an image file ready to use in Substance Designer or any texturing software that works with color masks.
10. Overlay Visualization
Shows the color overlay of each trim division directly in the UV Editor. You can see exactly which islands are in which strip of the Trim Sheet without opening an external reference image.
11. Basic UV Tools
A set of built-in essential tools: horizontal/vertical flip, island alignment, seam cutting and welding, and UV position randomization (useful to avoid visible repetition in tileable textures).
PropGon Trim Importer: Substance Designer Integration
The addon comes with a plugin for Adobe Substance 3D Painter called Propgon Trim Importer. Its job is to automatically generate the masks for each strip of the Trim Sheet inside Substance, using the Color ID Map exported from Blender.
The full workflow is:
- Create and export your Trim Sheet layout from Blender with PropGon UV Trim
- Export the Color ID Map with the ID Map Baking tool
- The layout JSON preset is saved together with the color IDs
- In Substance Designer, activate the Trim Importer plugin
- Import the JSON, and the plugin automatically generates a node with one output per strip, ready to use as a mask
This completely removes the need to create masks manually in Substance Designer, a process that in projects with complex Trim Sheets can take hours.
